DANIEL
SANDBERG
Beginning in Spring 2008, I have focused my work on constantly evolving landscapes
around the world. How humans inhabit and use land has and continues to severely impact
landscapes all around the world, whether through living, farming, cultivation, recreational
use or development of new energy sources. Man´s dependence upon water, air and trees has
caused these changes, yet man himself is the single strongest catalyst.
Global temperatures have risen and landscapes around the world are being affected. Man has
always strived to find new ways to use particular landscapes from building wind farms to
trying new irrigation techniques, but frequently with adverse effects. The once harmonious
relationship between man and nature has eroded and nature’s response has been powerful.
From melting icecaps to more severe and frequent forest fires, nature is fighting back.
Mans own choices in the way we decide to live have also changed landscapes around the
world. Either in forms of greed, taste or the consequences of people living in close proximity
to each other; rich and poor alike, we are directly, through our choices, changing the world on
a daily basis.
My mission is to capture the impact man has had on nature and vice versa. These conflicts not
only exist in our own backyard but around the world and have become a truly global issue.
I try to depict these conflicts as well as what each particular landscape conveys. My work
is concentrated on the battle in each landscape. As a result, the most powerful statements
emerge.
